VEGAN: Whole Foods to Thrive - Brendan Brazier

Brendan Brazier is a Canadian entrepreneur, former triathlete, vegan, founder of Vega Foods and author of the 'Thrive Diet".
I had the pleasure of attending the launch party for the latest addition the "Thrive" family of books:
Brendan spoke briefly about his former days of training for marathons and triathlons and the roller coaster ride of trying to balance the nutritional intake with the physical expenditure...And ultimately what started his journey to developing a complete line of plant based food/ nutrition products.
It wasn't that long ago that Brendan was struggling with  his own diet!! 
I'm always intrigued to hear how it all started because it gives one a sense that ANYONE can make a HUGE change in their own life, at ANYTIME....It is never to late! 
Making changes in our diets is one of the hardest challenges... Especially for me! 
I love to eat delicious foods, all the time! But I feel better when I know that even if the item is rich, it is made from whole foods, not processed sugars and fillers. 

The book has over 200 recipes that are nutrient packed, complete and balanced... OH and did I mention YUMMY!! 
Recipe ideas are Raw or Vegan (non-dairy/ no animal by products) and include smoothies, dressings, salads, desserts, full-course meals and quick whip-ups for when you only have 10 minutes to prepare something nutritious. 
Whether you are flirting with the idea of trying to consume a higher ratio of plant based foods in your diet, or you are a super-hero vegan WHOLE FOODS TO THRIVE is worth having on hand in the kitchen!

Recipe from the book:

Tropical Pineapple Mango Smoothie
1 banana
2 fresh or soaked dried dates
1/2 medium papaya
1/2 cup fresh pineapple
1 tbsp ground flaxseed
1 tbsp hemp protein
1 tbsp coconut oil


*In a blender, combine all ingredients, and blend until smooth. Can be kept up to 3 days in the fridge.
Makes about 3.5 cups (2 large servings)
